The start of the new school year saw students learning new carpentry and joinery skills. They learnt the importance of measuring accurately, what tools and equipment were required to complete the job and what types of wood were required for different jobs. The main project for this half term was to build a workbench, which was to become a main feature of the workshop. Students set about designing the bench, and drawing a plan with the measurements required. They then used this to cut pieces of wood to the required length and use different methods to ensure the join was strong.
All students worked together to produce an excellent finish, with our trades teacher Darren guiding them through the process. This workbench will be well used and is built to last for many more students to benefit from.
Great job for the first half term of the year!
