academic year 2021 -2022 summary

The Academic year 2021 -2022 has been a successful year at ReFocus, despite COVID still causing disruption. Our student numbers steadily increased and with it, engagement, progress and qualifications followed.

We said goodbye to our Year 11 students, like all year 11’s across the country they have had it tough and we are incredibly proud to celebrate their achievements, including results with Level 2 passes in English, Maths, Construction and Employability. They have left ReFocus more Employable, Sociable and Ready for the future. Well done year 11’s and we wish you all the best with your post 16 options.

Throughout the year students have practised and developed skills in Construction. They have applied this around the ReFocus building. Of note in Carpentry, they have built a workbench in the Workshop, in Bricklaying they have built, rendered and painted column flower planters out of the front of the building, and have enhanced the kitchen area by repainting the units, re-tiling both the walls and floor.

Our students have also successfully designed and built two mud kitchens for local primary schools. They were brilliant, colourful and gratefully received, being played with by many children. We hope to continue with community projects next year.

We ended the year with those students moving into Years 10 and 11 in a strong position for their vocational courses. We can’t wait to see them in the new academic year building on those foundations.

Our behaviour procedures and incentive programs have also been successful. Students have enjoyed experiences outside of the curriculum which has included a Saints stadium tour, Bowling, Ninja Warrior, Trampolining and a day at Alton Towers. We remain focused on rewarding students for their hard work, giving them experiences they have never had before. We have more opportunities in the pipeline for the next incentives and we’re all super excited to offer them for all our hard work.

2022-23 sees us building on the successful partnerships we have built with Northampton Saints Foundation Trust and Northampton Town Football Community Trust. In the same vein we continue to work with our external partner agencies and really do appreciate the help and support from everyone that has been involved this year.

We are welcoming new students as well as new staff members as we continue to grow.

The new staff will complement the ReFocus family with a diverse, passionate approach, bringing experience and knowledge.
