This is an Open Awards qualification and can be taught up to a level 2. Students learn in three sections, Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. There are 3 English exams at the end of year 11 in these sections. Students are taught content and readiness for exams each term; we do this by utilising all other subjects and completely embedding English across the curriculum. Students’ levels are assessed upon arrival, and a bespoke personalised online BKSB profile is created. This is accessed at school and home. There is a dedicated Reading lesson once a week where students are in small groups. The English team works closely with the SEN team to ensure all individual needs are met and progress is maintained.
