Refocus is an Independent Alternative Provision for 14 – 16 year olds. We specialise in alternative teaching for alternative thinkers. By having a well-balanced curriculum that offers practical learning, flexible assessment methods and vocational studies, we can ensure that all students leave us more Employable. Embedding outstanding personal social development across the curriculum, enrichment activities and PSHE, ensures all our students leave us more Sociable. Our forward-thinking careers program gives all our students the knowledge, the skills and the opportunities for their post 16 options, illustrating they are Ready for their next steps.
Refocus was created in 2020 by four individuals who saw a need for an education setting that was practical, nurturing and achievable for those students who had previously had a negative experience of education. Since then, we have become a registered school with an Ofsted rating of GOOD. We have grown both in sites, team and student intake. We are incredibly proud of what Refocus has achieved, our passion to Educate, Inspire and Motivate all students will continue to evolve and grow each year.
Ofsted review
Every action that staff take is based on the aim that all pupils will be ‘employable, sociable and ready’ by the time that they leave school. Staff have high expectations of pupils, who have not had positive experiences of education before joining the school. Pupils develop an appreciation of the importance of education. They achieve qualifications and develop knowledge that prepares them well for their next steps. Pupils know that their achievements are recognised and celebrated by the school. They appreciate this.
Pupils appreciate the way in which staff communicate with them and help them to make good choices. All staff play their part in ensuring that pupils attend well. Leaders are analytical. They ensure that any trends in pupils’ behaviour or attendance are identified and action is taken to help pupils overcome any barriers to success.
